The Truckee Town Council, acting as the Truckee Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors, voted to allocate $29,000 for the re-roof project of the Old Jail Museum in downtown Truckee. The Truckee Donner Historical Society (TDHS), the group who operates and maintains the Old Jail Museum, awarded the project bid to a local construction company, Mark Tanner Construction. The roof work was completed in time for the Historic Haunted Tour, held Oct. 21.Former TDHS President Judy Dunlap stated, “We applaud the foresight of the Truckee Town Council in recognizing the community value of the Old Jail Museum and the Council’s willingness to invest RDS funds to protect this valuable asset. The Old Jail Museum is a treasure trove of maps, photos, newspapers, artifacts and furniture. This donation means we can maintain the Old Jail Museum as a functioning and educational public resource and not worry when the winter storms blow in.”
The TDHS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created in 1968. The Old Jail Museum is located east of the intersection of Spring and Jibboom Streets in downtown Truckee. Info: Chelsea Walterscheid, 530-305-4231.
