School’s out for summer! With nearly two months off, it’s a great time to get your kids into a new sport or help them train for what they love to do already. We’ve created a handy list of local recreation departments, highlighting one class that caught our eye, then listing a few others where your kids can find fun in the sun.

Incline Village Parks and Recreation

SHOTOKAN KARATE — Tue/Thu, 7:10 to 8:40 p.m.

Gregg Henrikson offers this all-ages class for everyone interested in the practice of self-defense — learning improved physical and mental health, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

Kings Beach Boys and Girls Club

SUMMER SPECIALTY CAMPS: Flow Arts — June 25 to 29, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Children in grades two to six can get artistic through dance and movement with Tahoe Flow Arts Studio’s instructors. Includes a trip to the studio for aerial skills.

Tahoe City Public Utility District

TAHOE COMMUNITY SAILING PROGRAM: Sailing class — Sessions vary

It’s time to hit the open water and learn to sail across Lake Tahoe. The program aims to develop solid sailing skills, with an emphasis on safety, fun, and teamwork. Courses are offered for novice, intermediate, and advanced students 8 years old and up.

Truckee Bike Park

NEXT LEVEL BIKE SKILLZ — Tue/Thu, 4 p.m.

Whether your child is just getting into riding or wants to fine-tune some skills with certified coaches, this program groups riders by ability and teaches the fundamentals of pumping, jumping, turning, and dropping. Info: truckeebikepark.org

Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District

GOLF CAMP FOR KIDS —Sessions vary

Taught by Angelo Tenorio, these clinics for ages 6 to 15 are designed to help the youth beginner golfer, and will progress through the golf swing, putting, short game, and rules and etiquette.
